Chicago, Illinois
I was so excited for this stop on our trip. If only I had known what was in store. My mom and I drove in around 7:30 that night. I was just happy we had got there in one piece. Chicago driving can be a little challenging. We checked into our hotel room and it was a real winner! It is one of those places that you don't take of your shoes because you are afraid to touch the carpet and of course the chair and bed are not any better. The room had two awesome features. One was a peep hole just above the bed for someone in the next room to spy on us. I promptly filled it with toilet paper to prevent anything I didn't want seen. The second feature was the yellow toilet. Now, I have never seen a yellow toilet but let me tell you it is so deceiving. You really can't tell if the person before you flushed or not until you determine if any toilet paper was used. It really threw me off. My mom was not happy with our room and I thought that maybe if we went and ate she might feel better about things.
We decide to take a taxi to a pizza place that my friend Kaylyn HIGHLY recommended as having the best pizza ever. I handed the printed directions I had googled earlier to the taxi driver and we began our journey. Don't worry that we end up in a Chicago suburb at this "hole in the wall" pizza place where we ordered a slice of pizza that had to be re-warmed. And to make matters even worse, we didn't have a ride back to our yucky hotel. At least, I had thought to ask our taxi driver for a card so that I could call the cab company to come and pick us up, but we were so out of the way it took them almost an hour to come and pick us up. Obviously my friend had given my the wrong name of the pizza place. (I am not trying to place blame on her, but she really did tell me the wrong name.) All I could to was laugh but my mom was not in a laughing mood. We had just spent $50 (cab ride included) for some warmed up disgusting pizza.
The next day was a little better, we stopped at Millennial Park, the John Hancock Building, and ate at the Cheesecake Factory. Needless to say, Chicago fell a little short of my expectations and I don't think that my mom will ever be returning there.
